Rain pain! Storm warning as 45 provinces brace for a soaking
Soaked terrain heightens risk in flood-prone zones

Brollies up and sandbags out, Thailand’s bracing for a summer soaking as storms threaten to drench nearly half the country, with flash floods and landslides in the mix.
Thailand’s weather boffins sounded the alarm, warning that heavy rain and thunderstorms are on the way for 45 provinces, including the capital Bangkok.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) says the east and both sides of the southern region are likely to bear the brunt, with torrential downpours putting communities at risk of flash floods and forest run-offs.
“People living near hillsides, rivers or canals should be on high alert,” warned the TMD, urging caution as conditions could quickly turn dangerous.
Farmers, too, have been told to batten down the barns, with fears that crops could be washed out or waterlogged by the wild weather.
The TMD is closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to stay updated through official channels as the monsoon continues to flex its muscles across the kingdom.
A moderate monsoon trough is passing over northern and upper northeastern Thailand, extending to a low-pressure area along Vietnam’s coast. This is coupled with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand.
The Department of Mineral Resources has issued a warning for 12 provinces across three regions about landslide and flash flood risks. Today’s weather forecast from the TMD indicates heavy rain in 41 provinces from the afternoon to evening.
The Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are experiencing strong winds, with waves reaching 2 to 3 metres and over 3 metres in thunderstorm areas. The Gulf of Thailand has waves of 1 to 2 metres, rising to over 2 metres in storms.
Mariners in these areas should proceed with caution, avoiding sailing in stormy conditions. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore until June 13. A low-pressure area in the upper South China Sea may develop into a tropical cyclone between June 10 and 13.
