Bangkok on flood alert as heavy rains hammer Thailand
Severe weather triggers safety warnings across multiple regions

Heavy rain is sweeping across Thailand, prompting warnings of flash floods and landslides as severe weather hits multiple regions, including the capital.
As heavy rain continues to batter the country today, September 6, weather warnings have been issued for 49 provinces, including Bangkok, with a 70% chance of flash flooding and landslides.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned that severe weather is expected to persist through the day and into tomorrow, September 7, driven by a monsoon trough crossing the lower North, upper Central, and lower Northeast regions, combined with a moderate southwesterly monsoon across the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf.
“People living in hillside areas near waterways or lowlands should be especially cautious. Accumulated rainfall may trigger flash floods and mudslides.”

In Bangkok and its vicinity, thunderstorms are expected to cover 70% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast in some zones. Temperatures will range between 24 to 34°C.
The forecast paints a soggy picture nationwide:
Northern Thailand will have a 40% chance of thunderstorms in provinces including Chiang Mai, Tak, and Phetchabun. Minimum temperatures will be 22 to 26°C, with the maximum at 33 to 36°C. Winds will blow at 5 to 15km/h.
In the Northeast, 70% of the region, including Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani, will face storms, some with heavy rainfall. Temperature range from 22 to 25°C at the lower end, and 31 to 34°C at the upper end, with winds at 10 to 15km/h.
In the central region, there will be a 70% chance of rain with storms hitting areas such as Lop Buri and Nakhon Pathom. Temperatures will reach lows of 23 to 26°C and highs of 32 to 34°C, with wind speeds of 10-15km/h.
For eastern Thailand, expect heavy to very heavy rain in provinces like Rayong, Chon Buri, and Trat. Minimum temperatures will be 23 to 25°C and maximum temperatures will reach 30 to 34°C. Southwesterly winds will blow at 15-35km/h. Sea waves are expected to be 1 to 2 metres high, reaching over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms.
In the South, the west coast will see heavy rain in 60% of the area, particularly Ranong, Phuket, and Krabi. Temperatures will be 23 to 26°C at the lowest and 29 to 32°C at the highest. The east coast will experience scattered storms in areas including Chumphon and Surat Thani. Temperatures will be 23 to 26°C at the lowest and 32 to 35°C at the highest, according to KhaoSod.
Mariners have also been advised to stay alert. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are reaching up to 2 metres, and higher in thunderstorm areas. Small boats should avoid setting sail in affected zones, especially along the Andaman and the upper Gulf.
A tropical depression currently hovering over the upper South China Sea is forecast to make landfall in southern China between September 8 and 9. However, authorities confirm that it will not have a direct impact on Thailand’s weather.
