Torrential rain lashes Thailand, TMD warns of flash floods
Mountainous and lowland areas at risk of forest runoff

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) today warned of heavy rainfall across 43 provinces, urging residents to stay alert for flash floods and runoff caused by a strong monsoon system sweeping the country.
This weather pattern results from a monsoon trough passing through the lower North, upper central, and lower northeastern regions, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand.
In the upper Andaman Sea, moderate winds are expected, with waves reaching approximately 2 metres, and over 2 metres during thunderstorms. In the lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are between 1 and 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during storms. Mariners are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
The weather forecast for 6am today, September 5, until 6am tomorrow, September 6, predicts that the northern region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly affecting Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun.
Temperatures will range from 23°C to 36°C, with variable winds at speeds of 5 to 15 km/h. The northeastern region is expected to experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, accompanied by heavy rain in Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures here will be between 22°C and 34°C, with variable winds at 10 to 15km/h.

The central region expects thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in Suphan Buri, Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 33°C, with variable winds at 10 to 15km/h.
The eastern region will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will be between 23°C and 34°C, with southwest winds at 15 to 35km/h. Sea waves are expected to be 1 to 2 metres high, exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.
In the southern region (east coast), thunderstorms are forecast for 40% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Temperatures will range from 22°C to 35°C, with southwest winds at 15 to 35km/h. Sea waves will reach about 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore, and over 2 metres during storms.

The west coast will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang. Temperatures will be between 23°C and 31°C. From Phang Nga upwards, southwest winds will blow at 20 to 35km/h, with sea waves about 2 metres high, exceeding 2 metres in storms.
From Phuket downwards, southwest winds will be 15 to 35km/h, with waves between 1 and 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms, reported KhaoSod.
Bangkok and the surrounding areas will have thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some heavy rain. Temperatures are expected to be between 24°C and 34°C, with southwest winds at 10 to 15km/h.
