A dramatic incident unfolded when a truck carrying large bales of compressed cardboard toppled its load while navigating a curve, crushing a Nissan car driving alongside. The female driver miraculously survived with minor injuries.

Police Lieutenant Patcharapol Pholto from the Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station yesterday, August 14, received a report of a truck accident involving large bales of compressed cardboard falling onto Setthakit Road, outbound towards Mahachai. The incident occurred just before the Big Song overpass, causing a significant traffic jam. Officers, along with traffic police, promptly arrived at the scene.

At the location, numerous bales of compressed cardboard, each weighing no less than 500 kilograms, were found scattered across the road. There were more than 51 bales in total.

A white Nissan sedan with license plate 6 กง7131 Bangkok was notably damaged, with one of the bales having fallen onto the front driver’s side of the car. The female driver sustained injuries to her arms and body.

Nearby, police identified a 22-wheeled Hino truck with the front license plate 50 – 9871 Bangkok and the trailer license plate 50 – 9873 Bangkok, parked by the roadside. The truck driver, Praphawat, was waiting to provide his statement to the police.

Investigations revealed that the truck, laden with compressed cardboard bales, was navigating a curve onto the overpass when the poorly secured and heavy load began to fall. As a result, the bales tumbled off the truck, landing on the passing sedan and scattering across the roadway, leading to the chaotic scene.

The police immediately contacted the company responsible for the cardboard bales, requesting they dispatch a forklift and workers to urgently clear the road and alleviate the traffic congestion. While waiting for the company’s response, good Samaritans and employees from the nearby Big Song shop assisted in moving the bales off the road to create a passage for vehicles, reported KhaoSod.

The truck driver now faces charges for failing to secure the load properly, and further fines are expected.
