Unusual banana tree in Ratchaburi sparks hope for good fortune

Residents of Pak Tho in Ratchaburi are buzzing with excitement after discovering an unusual banana tree with a blossom sprouting from its stem, leading many to believe it could bring them luck. Locals have flocked to the site, tying colourful ribbons and lighting incense to seek fortune.

Residents in the Pak Tho district of Ratchaburi province yesterday, August 14, reported finding a peculiar banana tree in a small alley near the railway road in Moo 8, Pak Tho sub-district. The tree, despite having its trunk cut, has a banana blossom emerging from its stem, sparking curiosity and excitement among locals who see it as an omen of good luck.

The banana tree in question is a Namwa variety, which had been cut down, but surprisingly, a blossom sprouted from the middle of the remaining trunk. This bizarre sight has drawn the attention of passersby and locals alike, who believe the tree might be an indicator of good fortune. People have been seen tying three-coloured ribbons and lighting incense sticks while praying for luck and prosperity.

Siraseht Sittisakgesem, a local, shared that he has been seeking fortune numbers from this particular banana tree for the past two lottery draws and has won both times. He noted that, although the winnings were not substantial, he chose to keep them to himself.

Now, for the third time, he is back at the tree, hopeful for another stroke of luck. He noted that this instance was even more unusual because of the banana blossom growing from the middle of the trunk, a sight he had never encountered before.

According to him, the tree was blown over by strong winds and subsequently cut down, yet it managed to produce a blossom from its centre. Siraseht expressed that while he finds the phenomenon intriguing, the belief in its luck-bringing powers is entirely up to each individual.

Unusual tree

“Residents brought incense sticks with numbers to seek fortune, and after 15 minutes, the numbers 274 appeared.”

Preecha Sithornkul, an 81 year old man, who lives at house number 4/2 in Moo 8, Pak Tho sub-district, also spoke about the strange banana tree. He explained that the tree is located in front of his house and was cut down after being damaged by strong winds.

Surprisingly, instead of dying, it produced a blossom from the middle of the trunk. He decided to try his luck by interpreting the situation as numbers.

According to Preecha, the banana tree can be associated with No.9, the blossom with No. 8, and since there is one blossom, No.1 is added, making the number 981. He emphasised that the interpretation of these numbers is a matter of personal belief, reported KhaoSod.

“If this lottery draw results in a big win, the locals plan to erect a shrine for the spirit of the banana tree.”
