A tragic accident claimed the life of a recently retired school janitor when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck at a U-turn point in Chai Nat. The collision occurred despite the pickup driver’s attempts to warn and stop.

Police from the Chai Nat City Police Station were alerted to the accident yesterday, August 13, and promptly arrived at the scene along with emergency responders and rescue units.

At the scene, police found the body of 65 year old Boonrod, who had sustained severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. Nearby, his heavily damaged Suzuki motorcycle lay on its side, bearing the license plate กพต 561 Chai Nat. A short distance away, a pickup truck with the license plate 3 ตฐ 4216 Bangkok was found with a crumpled front end and a blown front-left tyre.

Investigations revealed that Boonrod, a retired school janitor, was on his way to the savings cooperative to conduct financial transactions. He was attempting to cross lanes at the U-turn point but was hit by the oncoming pickup truck, which caused him to be thrown to the ground, resulting in his immediate death.

The pickup driver, 25 year old Prommongkol, provided his account of the incident. He explained that he was en route to deliver plastic containers in Tha Chanwan, Manorom District. As he drove straight towards the U-turn point, he saw two young motorcyclists pass ahead and managed to avoid them, reported KhaoSod.

However, when he noticed Boonrod following behind, he honked to warn him and tried to brake. Unfortunately, he was unable to stop in time due to the heavy load he was towing, which led to the collision, said Prommongkol.

“I honked to warn him and tried to brake, but the heavy load made it impossible to stop in time.”

Emergency services transported Boonrod’s body to the hospital for further examination. The police are continuing their investigation and will proceed with legal action where necessary. Boonrod’s family has been informed and will be taking his body for religious rites.
