Elderly man arrested for assaulting woman with hoe in backyard
Police apprehended a 73 year old man for assaulting a 77 year old woman with a hoe, resulting in her requiring five stitches. The incident occurred while she was cutting bamboo shoots in her backyard. The suspect, identified as Thoeng Chinpak from Buriram, was taken into custody at the Satuek Police Station after hiding at a relative’s house in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Thoeng admitted during questioning that he struck Duen, the victim, on the head three times with a hoe because he was angry that she refused to lend it to him. He also confessed to choking her out of frustration but denied any intention to sexually assault her, as some reports suggested.
After the assault, Thoeng asked his grandchild to take him to the train station, where he travelled to stay with relatives in Nakhon Ratchasima. He claimed he did not flee out of fear but rather to let the situation cool down, thinking it was not a significant issue. It was only when his family informed him that the incident had become widely known that he decided to surrender.
Thoeng also mentioned he had undergone a penile enhancement procedure but denied the allegations that he had exhibited himself to anyone, as local rumours suggested. He insisted he lived a normal life and often joked around, which might have been misinterpreted by others. He expressed regret for his actions, attributing them to a momentary lapse of judgement, and apologised to the victim for the harm caused, reported KhaoSod.
Satuek Police Station Chief Yuttana Traithip stated that the case has garnered public attention due to concerns about safety and property. The police will conduct a thorough investigation into the suspect’s behaviour and will not press charges until they have interviewed the victim and assessed the severity of her injuries. Depending on the findings, appropriate charges will be filed.
