Pickup truck crash in Ayutthaya leaves driver dead in canal

A pickup truck lost control on a curve, crossing lanes and colliding with a trailer truck before plunging into an irrigation canal, resulting in the driver’s death. The incident occurred today, January 27, on Highway 3043 in Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Somchit Sirisawang from Uthai Police Station received the report and coordinated with the Phutthai Sawan Foundation to assist at the scene. The Isuzu four-door white pickup truck, bearing registration number กพ 8465 Lop Buri, was found overturned and submerged in the canal.

Inside, one dead man, 31 year old Piyyathat Kongsorn from Ban Noen subdistrict, Lom Kao district, Phetchabun province, was discovered with severe head injuries.

Efforts to retrieve the vehicle from the water were arduous, requiring cutting tools to extract the body. On the road, debris from the pickup was scattered and nearby was an 18-wheel white Hino trailer truck with registration 70-6473 Pathum Thani and trailer registration 70-4856 Pathum Thani.

The right side of the truck was damaged with two burst tyres. The 34 year old driver, named Amphan from Nakhon Ratchasima province, awaited police in a state of shock.

Amphan recounted driving to deliver empty bottles to Bang Len district, Nakhon Pathom province, when the pickup, coming from the opposite direction, lost control on the curve and collided with his vehicle before veering into the canal. Siwakul Phuin, an official from the Phutthai Sawan Foundation, confirmed receiving the accident report and arriving to find the overturned pickup in the canal.

Upon inspection, the driver was found deceased, and inside the vehicle, unopened beer bottles and several broken ones were discovered, reported KhaoSod.

Police investigated the accident traces on both vehicles and the road. Inside the pickup, three unopened beer bottles and several broken ones were found.

The trailer truck driver was taken for questioning, while the man’s body was sent to the Ministry of Justice’s Forensic Science Institute in Pathum Thani for examination.

Police are coordinating with the deceased’s relatives to proceed with legal processes.
