Man arrested for assaulting monk over drug deal in Nonthaburi

A 23 year old man was arrested for assaulting a monk at his residence in Mueang district, Nonthaburi province. The incident occurred after the man had reportedly given money to the monk to buy methamphetamine but did not receive the drugs.

Consequently, he sought to reclaim his money. When the monk could not return the money, the man attacked him.

The victim, identified as Phra Phromphong, a monk residing at a temple in Mueang district, was attacked by two people. They reportedly used a firearm to threaten him before forcing him into a vehicle and driving him away from the temple. The monk was severely beaten and later abandoned by the roadside in Pak Kret district at 11pm on April 19.

Police in Nonthaburi City have since obtained an arrest warrant from the Nonthaburi Provincial Court, dated April 22, 2025, with the reference number 574/2568. They have apprehended 23 year old Paradet, one of the assailants.

The other suspect, identified as 25 year old Ratchanon, who was the driver, has been urged by police to surrender himself before a warrant is issued for his arrest.

Paradet admitted to attacking Phra Phromphong. While reporters attempted to uncover the full motive behind the attack, the suspect remained silent. Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute over money intended for purchasing drugs, which the monk had failed to procure.

The perpetrator demanded the return of 14,000 baht (US$420). Phra Phromphong, unable to obtain the money from his mother, was consequently beaten severely and left by the roadside, reported KhaoSod.
