A 60 year old man was found dead in a paddy field after a night out drinking with old friends. The discovery, made by a local, revealed the man had been stabbed 20 times. The incident took place yesterday, December 5, in the rural area of Khlong Khlung, Kamphaeng Phet province.

The body was found in the village’s paddy fields, near a dirt road. The victim, identified as 60 year old Udom, was dressed in a black jacket and green t-shirt, with black trousers partially pulled down. Bloodstains were evident on his abdomen and right waist, and his shirt was pulled up nearly to his chest.

Nearby, a large pool of blood was found on the dirt road, along with broken glass, a damaged helmet, pieces of clothing, and the victim’s shoe floating in water. Sommai Sirisom, a 59 year old man, was the first to discover the body.

He explained that he was soaking rice seeds in the field when he noticed Udom’s body lying in the mud. Assuming the man was drunk, Sommai initially dismissed it.

Upon closer inspection, however, he realised the man was dead. Sommai had never seen Udom before, suspecting he was not from the local community. Broken beer bottles were found near the body, with one bottle positioned by the victim’s waist.

“I thought he was just sleeping off a night of drinking, but when I got closer, it was clear he was gone.”

The investigation revealed that Udom had been a regular patron at a local karaoke bar owned by 49 year old Anong. On the day of his death, Udom had bought alcohol from the bar and was later joined by two friends, a man and a woman, for drinks.

After their night out, a disagreement erupted over the bill. Udom’s friends refused to pay, claiming Udom had already settled it. They left the bar, allegedly to retrieve money from the friend’s house, with no arguments reported at the venue. Anong noted that Udom typically called her upon reaching home but this time, he disappeared only to be found dead in a field.

Phiphat, 35 year old Udom’s nephew, recounted an incident from around 1am when a woman came to his garage asking to buy petrol. After he declined, she left, and a motorcycle started outside. The woman appeared anxious, and Phiphat had never seen her before.

Concerned, he saved the CCTV footage and provided it to the police. The footage confirmed she was the same woman who had been drinking with Udom at the karaoke bar.

“She seemed nervous and it was odd for someone to be buying petrol at that hour,” Phiphat noted.

Udom was known for his love of socialising and drinking, living alone since his mother’s passing earlier in April. The Deputy Police Commander of Kamphaeng Phet province, Anek Junsorn, revealed that Udom had invited his friends, an old schoolmate couple, to join him at the karaoke bar.

They sat at separate tables initially but later joined Udom. The friends refused to pay their share of the bill, claiming Udom had already done so. The couple left their motorcycle as collateral while they supposedly went to get money, and all three departed together, reported KhaoSod.

Police believe a dispute escalated during the ride back, with the woman driving, Udom seated in the middle, and the male friend at the back.

Broken glass found at the scene suggests a bottle may have been used to fatally stab Udom, whose body was then dragged into the field. Police are actively pursuing the suspects, having identified them and their whereabouts.
