Thai man found dead with leg chained to tree in Nakhon Pathom

Cattle herder’s routine walk leads to harrowing scene

A Thai man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in an abandoned field in the central province of Nakhon Pathom, with his left leg chained to a tree.

A cattle herder yesterday, October 2, alerted officers from Sam Kwai Puak Police Station after discovering the body in an overgrown plot of land in Marb Kae sub-district, Mueang district, Nakhon Pathom.

The land was covered in tall grass and trees, and the body was located about 20 to 30 metres from the roadside.

Police, accompanied by a rescue team and medical staff from Nakhon Pathom Hospital, examined the scene. The deceased, later identified as 55 year old Supalerk, was found lying face up on fertiliser bags. He was dressed in a camouflage T-shirt and black shorts, with his left ankle chained to a tree.

Nearby, officers found a blue apron, flip-flops, soft drink bottles, a water bottle, three packets of herbicide, and a pink bicycle.

The cattle herder told police that he brings his cow to the field daily, and during his visit yesterday, he came across the body. Police believe Supalerk had died for at least two to three days before being found.

Channel 8 reported that Supalerk’s wife had filed a missing person report with Nakhon Pathom Police Station, while his daughter appealed on social media for help in locating him.

His wife later arrived at the scene and confirmed the identity of her missing husband. However, she and other family members declined to speak with the media.

Police reviewed security footage in the area and saw Supalerk cycling to a local grocery shop at 4.17pm on Monday, September 29, where he bought a drink. No other cameras captured where he went afterwards.

The discovery of herbicide and several beverage bottles at the site led police to suspect suicide. However, this speculation still doesn’t explain why the man was found chained to a tree.

Nevertheless, Supalerk’s body was sent to Nakhon Pathom Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
