Detectives in Dorset are urgently appealing for witnesses or anyone with information after a young girl was hospitalised following a daylight stabbing. On August 20, around 5.45 pm, Dorset Police responded to a report of an assault on a young girl at an address on Glider Close, Christchurch. Emergency services arrived to find the victim with stab wounds.

A local man in his 20s from Christchurch has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. A local woman in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both are currently in police custody. The girl, reported by the Bournemouth Daily Echo to be around eight years old, sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and is receiving treatment in hospital. Police are calling on the public to come forward with any relevant information.

Chief Superintendent Stewart Dipple of Dorset Police stated, “There is an increased police presence in the area as we conduct enquiries at the scene. We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to assist our investigation to come forward.

“Our enquiries are in the early stages, and we ask the public not to speculate about the incident’s circumstances. We understand this will cause concern, and neighbourhood policing team members will be on patrol over the coming days to address any public concerns.”
