Chaos erupted in east Baltimore on Sunday night when multiple gunmen opened fire, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries, according to police. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on the 1300 block of Spring Street, reported Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley. Details about the gathering or the number of suspects were not disclosed.
Police found several gunshot victims upon arrival, who were subsequently transported to local hospitals. Additional victims later sought treatment at hospitals. A 36-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. “Baltimore is facing the aftermath of another mass shooting tonight, resulting in one death and multiple injuries,” stated Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott.
Worley indicated that the victims’ ages ranged from 22 to 45, though a police statement mentioned the oldest victim was 46. Their conditions vary from critical to stable. Homicide detectives are spearheading the investigation. Detectives were on the scene Sunday night, interviewing witnesses and residents, and searching for video and ballistic evidence, said Worley.

Several firearms were discovered at the scene, leading the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to assist in the investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Scott advised those who know someone involved to encourage them to come forward.
“To those aware of the perpetrators’ identities, even if they are loved ones, I urge you to encourage them to take responsibility,” Scott said. This year, over 350 mass shootings have occurred in the US, resulting in more than 350 deaths and over 1,500 injuries, according to the Gun Violence Archive. A mass shooting is defined as an incident where four or more people are injured or killed, excluding the shooter.
“These violent acts, which remain too frequent in our city, are facilitated by the easy access to firearms. Addressing this tragedy requires acknowledging the role of gun proliferation in endangering our communities,” Scott said.
