The eldest son of US president, Donald Trump, has tested positive for Covid-19, an anonymous White House spokesperson has confirmed. 42 year old Donald Trump Jr. is understood to be asymptomatic and currently self-isolating, following the diagnosis earlier this week. His girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, tested positive back in July.

In October, President Trump tested positive for Covid-19, as did his wife Melania and their son Barron. While the First Lady and her son recovered at home, Trump was treated at a military hospital where he was given experimental drugs over the course of 3 days, before being discharged.

The Covid-19 virus has now killed over 260,000 people in the US, with total cases exceeding 12 million. It has become a political hot potato, with President Trump’s response to the pandemic heavily criticised by his opponents. President-elect Joe Biden made controlling the virus a key priority in his campaign for the White House.
