Suspect’s escape leads to soldier’s death in Pattani crash

A tragic incident unfolded yesterday, December 25, when a suspect involved in a security case seized control of a vehicle’s steering wheel, causing it to veer off the road into a fruit orchard. This action resulted in one soldier’s death and injuries to three others. The suspect managed to escape during the ensuing chaos.

Police had been conducting a coordinated operation to arrest individuals linked to security-related crimes. A suspect, identified as Hamdi Toma, was apprehended and was being transported for further questioning to a police operations centre in Yala province.

The incident occurred while traveling on Route 418 from Pattani to Yala, specifically in the Kalo Tanyong area of Nong Chik district, Pattani.

While the suspect was being transported in the vehicle, he suddenly grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a nearby fruit orchard. Amid the confusion following the crash, the suspect managed to flee, leaving no trace behind, reported KhaoSod.

The accident resulted in one fatality and injuries to three military personnel. The deceased soldier, Phairoj Prab Pram, suffered fatal injuries to the neck. The injured include Thongpak Sukornwatcharin, who sustained a hip injury; Chawalit Kittiphan, who suffered a head injury without any fractures; and Natthawut Ounla, who sustained a broken arm.

In related news, a suspect from a drug gang in Bangkok remains at large after firing five shots at police to facilitate his escape. His accomplice, who was apprehended, was found with 160,000 methamphetamine pills and 1 kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine hidden in the car’s boot.

On October 22, around 10.30pm, police officers led by Rangsang Sonsingh, along with Sanchai Keerirat and Wutthichai Boonyoo, conducted a drug bust operation in Saimai, Bangkok. They detained 37 year old Wuttisak Tanchareon, who had a significant stash of illegal drugs. The incident took place in Soi Saimai 10, Saimai district.
