Bomb blast near TK Park Pattani injures six officers

A bomb explosion occurred in a side alley near TK Park, central Pattani, injuring six volunteer officers. The incident happened at 8am today, January 13, just 20 metres from the Mueang Pattani Police Station.

The assailants had hidden the explosive device in a vehicle parked in front of a row of shophouses, causing damage to nearby buildings.

Residents expressed alarm as the alley is a crucial route typically closed from 9pm to 5am nightly, raising concerns about how the perpetrators managed to attack such a heavily secured area.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence to identify those responsible. Security measures in the city are being heightened to minimise the risk of further incidents.

The injured volunteers suffered primarily from shrapnel wounds to the legs.

They include Bunlert Saengsuwan, who experienced chest tightness; Panuwat Mairaksa, hit on the right leg; Bantheng Nuamming, also wounded in the right leg; Matopead Wagueno; Matohe Saleh; and Jaezo Mama.

Emergency services quickly transported the injured to the hospital for treatment, reported KhaoSod.

In related news, an explosive attack targeted a police truck in Pattani, injuring five officers when a bomb planted on a motorcycle was detonated remotely. The incident occurred at 2.40pm on November 14, near the Tanyong Dalo Bridge in Yaring district.

Police Colonel Teerapot Yindi, head of Yaring Police Station in Pattani, was alerted to the attack, which left the police truck severely damaged by shrapnel. Police immediately secured the area, fearing further explosive devices might be planted to target responders.

The injured officers were quickly transported to Yaring Hospital. The victims include Precha Kotnen, who sustained injuries to his head and face from shrapnel; Winai Chaichanasongkram, along with Anon Laemae, Kittipoom Morakot, and Muhammad Musodi, all of whom experienced chest pain and ringing in their ears from the blast impact.
