An explosive attack targeted a police truck in Pattani yesterday, injuring five officers when a bomb planted on a motorcycle was detonated remotely. The incident occurred at 2.40pm, yesterday, November 14, near the Tanyong Dalo Bridge in Yaring district.
Police Colonel Teerapot Yindi, head of Yaring Police Station in Pattani, was alerted to the attack, which left the police truck severely damaged by shrapnel. Police immediately secured the area, fearing further explosive devices might be planted to target responders.
The injured officers were quickly transported to Yaring Hospital. The victims include Precha Kotnen, who sustained injuries to his head and face from shrapnel; Winai Chaichanasongkram, along with Anon Laemae, Kittipoom Morakot, and Muhammad Musodi, all of whom experienced chest pain and ringing in their ears from the blast impact.
Precha sustained injuries to his head and face from shrapnel, detailed a source familiar with the incident. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive the damaged truck away from the site to prevent a potential follow-up attack.
The investigation revealed that the truck belonged to the Border Patrol Police Unit 446 in Waeng district, Narathiwat province.
The officers were returning to Narathiwat after collecting concertina wire from Suriyothai Camp in Bo Thong district, Pattani. The team consisted of five officers who were travelling together.
The attack unfolded when an unidentified group planted an explosive device on a motorcycle near the bridge.
As the police truck approached, the assailants triggered the explosion, damaging the truck’s front windshield and causing injuries. Police suspect the attackers were aiming to cause maximum harm to law enforcement personnel, reported KhaoSod.
Following the explosion, all routes leading to the crime scene were closed off to prevent any unauthorised access and ensure safety, while the area was thoroughly searched for any additional threats.
