Water restrictions announced as water levels in Phuket reservoirs drop

The Phuket Waterworks Authority (PWA) has announced a date for water restrictions to start in some Phuket areas.

They say the reason is water levels at reservoirs in Phuket are getting low in the dry seasons and they predict it will continue for the next three months.

Water will be restricted for residents on even dates starting February 8 for the Sai Yuan Intersection, Rawai Beach area to Yanui Beach. Also in Koh Kaew, Rassada and Koh Sirey.

While water will be restricted for residents on odd dates which starts on February 9 from Saiyuan to Naiharn Beach, Maikhao, Sakoo, Thepkrasattri, Cheng Talay, Srisoonthorn, Paklok and Koh Kaew sub-districts.

The announcement from the PWA says that this schedule will continue until the dry season.

The Phuket News reported rationing of water in Cherng Talay late last month, otherwise The Thaiger can find no record of ongoing water restrictions anytime in the past 20 years (searching through the The Thaiger and Phuket Gazette archives).

Meanwhile two people have contacted The Thaiger from Patong in the past week saying water had been turned off on some days and the water trucks had been driving around offering highly-priced water.
