Water supply timeout: Phuket residents set for thirst quenching pause

Residents in Phuket’s Bang Jo area are bracing themselves for a disruption in their water supply. The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) of Phuket declared a temporary halt in the water supply from the evening of November 9 to the early hours of November 10. The shut-off is a result of repair work that needs to be carried out in the area’s water production station.

The PWA has identified a 300-millimetre T Strainer at the Baan Bang Jo water production station in Sri Sunthon that requires mending. This technical issue has necessitated the interruption in water supply, which will primarily affect the Bang Jo region in Sri Sunthon.

However, the impact of this water shut-off will not be limited to the immediate vicinity of Sri Sunthon. Areas farther afield including Ratsada, Koh Kaew, Kamala, Pa Khlok, Cherng Talay, Thep Kasattri, Sakhu, and Mai Khao have also been highlighted as potentially affected regions in the PWA’s announcement.

The consequences of this disruption will vary from place to place. While some residents might experience a mere drop in water pressure, others may face a complete cut-off in their water supply. The PWA has warned the locals about this possibility.

The PWA is committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvenience caused to the residents. Meanwhile, the authority has advised people to store 200 litres of water per person per day to tide throughout the water outage, reported Phuket News.

Once the repair work is completed and the water supply is restored, residents may notice a discolouration in the water. The PWA has reassured the public that this is temporary and the water will clear up if allowed to flow for a bit.

For further information or queries, residents can reach out to the PWA at 076-319173 or 063-4744565, or contact the PWA Contact Center at 1662.
