Phuket motorists disrupted by Heroines Underpass pole relocation
Motorists in Phuket should prepare for further disruptions at the Heroines Monument as Thalang Traffic Police continue the relocation of power poles along Thepkrasattri Road. This work is part of the preparations for constructing the Heroines Underpass.
The initial phase of this relocation project, which started last Wednesday, July 31, has been completed. Yesterday, August 4, Thalang Traffic Police announced online that no work on moving the power poles would occur today.
However, the relocation activities will resume from 9am to 4pm on August 13-14, affecting the southbound lanes from the Heroines Monument to Tha Ruea Shrine. Following this, work will continue on the north side of the Heroines Monument from 9am to 4pm on August 15-17, extending up to the Thai Watsadu branch. The same section on the north side will see further work from August 26-28 said Thalang Traffic Police.
“Please avoid the area while the work is underway.”
To assist motorists, Thalang Traffic Police provided maps showing alternative routes to bypass the Heroines Monument roundabout.
In response to heavy traffic on Saturday, Thalang Traffic Police temporarily allocated one lane on the southbound side for northbound traffic to alleviate congestion at the roundabout. Similar measures are expected to be implemented as the work progresses.
Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and stay updated with the latest traffic announcements from Thalang Traffic Police, reported The Phuket News.
In related news, a 39 year old minivan owner, Kosol Kwansuk, is facing hardship after his vehicle was severely damaged by a dislodged drain cover in Pattaya. The incident, which occurred on July 13, damaged the van’s fuel tank and power pump, rendering it inoperable and affecting Kosol’s livelihood.
Despite reporting the incident to local police, Kosol has received no assistance or response, prompting him to seek help through the media. The issue with the drain cover has reportedly caused multiple accidents, highlighting a recurring safety hazard.
