Myanmar man found with foreign money and overstayed visa in theft case

A 23 year old Burmese worker has been arrested for stealing over 1.1 million baht from his employer’s home in Phuket.
The Myanmar national, Nye Bo Thet, was arrested as part of a Cherng Talay Police crime suppression campaign running from May 1 to May 7.
Police tracked the suspect down and nabbed him outside Building 92 of the Baan Ua-Athorn housing project in Village 1, Srisoonthorn subdistrict, Thalang district, Phuket province. The exact time and date of his arrest were not disclosed.
According to police, the suspect was identified from clear CCTV footage showing him leaving the scene of a burglary at a residence in Bang Tao.
Officers followed his escape route and later apprehended him with bags of evidence.
Items seized included a red Honda Scoopy i motorbike, the clothes he wore during the crime, a black shoulder bag, a helmet, and 1,980 baht in cash.
More significantly, police recovered 1,179,890 baht in Thai banknotes and US$100 (approximately 3,000 baht) in foreign currency.
Investigators said Nye Bo Thet allegedly broke into his employer’s house at night and made off with the cash from a safe deposit box.
The victim, only described as a Thai national, has not been named, and there has been no mention of legal action for potentially hiring an undocumented worker.
Nye Bo Thet now faces a stack of charges, including theft at night with illegal entry, using a vehicle to commit the crime, and possession of stolen goods. On top of that, he’s also been slapped with charges related to illegal online gambling.
Police also confirmed the suspect had overstayed his visa, which expired on March 4 last year. His passport was found during the arrest, reported The Phuket News.
The case is being handled by Cherng Talay Police, under the command of Police Colonel Ekkarat Phlaiduang. Nye Bo Thet has been taken to Cherng Talay Police Station, where legal proceedings are now underway.
