8,000 runners set for biggest Phuket marathon yet

Lace up those trainers and pack your sunblock — the Laguna Phuket Marathon 2025 is set to be the biggest yet, drawing more than 8,000 runners from 50 countries for an unforgettable weekend of sweat, speed, and stunning scenery.

Phuket Governor Sopon Suwannarat and Laguna Phuket’s Managing Director Paul Wilson officially launched the event at a press conference in Bangkok yesterday, April 23, declaring the island ready to welcome the world for its 19th annual marathon.

The race, taking place on June 14-15, will transform Laguna Grove into a world-class sports festival backed by major national partners, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Supersports, and both public and private sectors, said Governor Sopon.

“This event will not only showcase Phuket’s ability to host international sporting events but also reflect the unity between our government, private partners, and local communities.

“We’re ready to welcome runners from all over the globe with open arms and stunning landscapes.”

The weekend kicks off with Run Sunset, a family-friendly series featuring a Youth Run (2km), Fun Run (5km), and Mini Marathon (10km). But the real test comes with Run Sunrise, featuring the Half Marathon (21.1km), Full Marathon (42.2km), and a team relay for those who want to tackle the challenge together.

Participants will wind their way through Phuket’s breathtaking natural beauty, from lush rubber plantations and serene beaches to vibrant villages and cultural landmarks. Safety and support are top priorities, with medical teams, hydration stations, and volunteers placed along the route.

But it’s not just about the run. The event is also a platform for community giving, with proceeds supporting the Laguna Phuket Foundation and Children First Fund (CFF), providing meals for over 400 orphans and underprivileged children in Phuket. Donations can be made during registration or on race day, reported Matichon.

“This marathon isn’t just about racing, it’s about running towards a better future,” said Wilson. “From health and community to sustainability, this is a celebration of progress, for runners of all ages and backgrounds.”

Registrations are now open. Book your spot, grab a room in paradise, and get ready to run Phuket in 2025.
