Scaffold sore: Storm lashes Pattaya, topples hotel project (video)
Pattaya City was battered by strong winds and heavy rain yesterday at around 5pm, leading to a major construction site calamity. Scaffolding at a seven-story hotel project on Pattaya Klang Road in Soi Arunotai came crashing down, smashing into power lines and causing high-voltage power poles to break, blocking the road. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
The collapse, a direct result of the violent storm, saw steel sheets and scaffolding scattered across the road, creating a hazardous scene.
In a swift response, Pattaya City Special Affairs officers arrived at the scene in record time, shutting down both lanes of the road to protect the public. Working hand-in-hand with the Pattaya City Electricity Authority, they meticulously inspected the site for any electrical dangers posed by the downed power poles.
While the storm left its mark, the prompt action of city officials averted potential disaster.
Efforts to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow began immediately. Relevant agencies were mobilised to handle debris removal and to ensure that the power lines were safely dealt with. The response from local emergency services was both swift and efficient, preventing any injuries from occurring, said a Pattaya City Special Affairs officer.
“Our team acted quickly to secure the area and coordinate with the electricity authority to mitigate any potential dangers.”
The incident, despite causing significant disruption to traffic and posing potential hazards, was managed effectively, showcasing the readiness and cooperation of local agencies, reported Pattaya News.
In related news, East Pattaya residents once again felt the brunt of the relentless rains. Mayor Poramet Ngamphichet and his team swooped into Chok Nimit 2 Village in Soi Boon Sampan 2, Khao Noi Community on Thursday, September 5, to assess the aftermath of severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
Ten households, submerged by the rising waters, received crucial survival kits and financial aid of 2,000 baht each. The Mayor acknowledged the area’s long-standing flood problems, owing to its low-lying nature.
