Pattaya police swooped on an entertainment venue early yesterday morning as part of a new policy initiative.

The raid, which unfolded at 2.36am yesterday, September 5, was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirichat Nuthet, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation at Pattaya City Police Station, and Pichananon Thawisuk, Bang Lamung District Chief.

They were accompanied by over 50 officers, including those from the human trafficking suppression unit. This operation was part of the newly announced 5-Free policy aimed at ensuring entertainment venues are child-free, drug-free, weapon-free, prostitution-free, and safe.

The Fin Pub Pattaya on Third Road was the main target, with more than 200 tourists found dancing and enjoying the night. Officers immediately stopped the music, illuminated the venue, and halted all activities to conduct thorough inspections. Male and female tourists were separated, and their ID cards were checked to confirm no minors under the age of 20 were present. Initial inspections did not uncover any drugs.

However, urine tests conducted on-site revealed that more than 20 tourists exhibited signs of potential drug use, indicated by purple urine. A clear plastic zip-lock bag was discovered and will undergo testing to determine its contents. CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify who discarded the bag during the inspection.

The officers also examined the cars parked at the venue for any illegal substances or weapons, but nothing illicit was found. Tourists with purple urine were taken to a local hospital for more comprehensive drug screening. Those who test positive for drugs will face legal consequences and formal arrest.

According to local laws, drug tests during club inspections are legal in Thailand. Typically, these checks are more common in venues frequented by Thai tourists, though foreign tourists are not exempt. The legality extends to searching vehicles parked at club premises.

The club itself was found to be operating with all proper licenses and no immediate issues, according to the police.

Officers issued a clear warning to entertainment venue operators in Pattaya to adhere strictly to the 5-Free policy and comply with all relevant laws. Non-compliance will lead to prosecution, as the government is determined to uphold Pattaya’s image as a world-class, family-friendly tourist destination, reported Pattaya News.
