Nonthaburi woman found dead in car after going missing
A tragic incident unfolded when an elderly woman was found dead in a car after going missing from her home. The discovery was made by the car’s owner, who was alerted by a foul smell. Police investigated the scene.
At 1pm yesterday, September 5, Police Lieutenant Panpat Setbuppha from Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi province received a report of an elderly woman found dead inside a car in a village in Bang Rak Phatthana subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi.
Medical professionals from the Institute of Forensic Science and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were called to inspect the scene.
The vehicle, a green Toyota Corona with the licence plate 6ช2419 Bangkok, was parked along a wall. Inside, the deceased was identified as 85 year old Lamiet.
Her body was found lying on its back in the rear footwell, unclothed except for purple shorts. No signs of physical assault were observed on her body. Medical experts estimated that she had been dead for at least 12 hours.
Thatchaphon, the 61 year old deceased’s husband, shared that his wife had gone missing since the previous afternoon. While it was unusual for her to wander off, this was the second time she had disappeared.
Body found
The first time, she was eventually found. This time, the car’s owner discovered her lifeless body. Thatchaphon mentioned that he had lived with his wife for approximately 20 years and noted that she had been experiencing memory issues due to her advanced age. He expressed no suspicion regarding the cause of her death.
Issara, the 87 year old car owner, explained that he was talking with his children and grandchildren near the car when he detected a foul odour emanating from inside. Upon opening the car, he discovered the woman’s body and immediately notified her relatives.
Issara mentioned that the car was rarely used and most of its parts had been removed. It was typically parked with all four windows closed but the doors unlocked to prevent water from entering during the rainy season. He was unsure if the deceased had ever slept in the car before, as they had no personal acquaintance.
Issara added that he had seen the deceased alive the previous afternoon. He was shocked to find her dead in the car the following day and couldn’t understand how she ended up there.
Initial police investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage, revealed that the deceased had used both hands to pull herself into the car before entering and lying down. There were no indications of physical harm, reported KhaoSod.
It is believed that she may have died from suffocation. Her family did not suspect foul play and accepted the cause of death. They were given her body to perform religious rites.
