Pattaya demolishes illegal structures in drug-prone area

Pattaya officials have taken decisive action to demolish illegal structures on Soi Jomtien 3, which had become a hotspot for drug-related activities.
Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet yesterday, February 17, inspected the building demolition site, accompanied by Pattaya Police Chief Police Colonel Navin Teerawit.
The operation comes in the wake of recent efforts aimed at tackling drug issues in the area. The site had been occupied unlawfully and transformed into approximately 30 makeshift shelters, contributing to the area’s decline into a known drug haven.
Multiple agencies collaborated to carry out the demolition to enhance public safety.
Pattaya officials are ramping up efforts to crack down on potential drug activity in Jomtien’s busy tourist hub, with Mayor Poramet Ngampichet ordering relentless inspections of Jomtien Soi 2 to 3 to prevent the area from turning into a crime hotspot.

Determined to maintain Jomtien’s status as a safe, family-friendly destination, the mayor has instructed local government officials to increase patrols and collaborate with community leaders to stamp out illegal activity, reported Pattaya News.
Jomtien Soi 2 to 3 is a key part of Pattaya’s tourism economy, attracting both holidaymakers and locals. Officials are working to ensure the area remains secure and welcoming for visitors while reinforcing Pattaya’s broader mission to combat drug abuse and crime.

Led by Police Colonel Nawin Thirawit, officers raided the area on February 6 following multiple complaints. Locals reported that drug users were igniting piles of rubbish, creating a serious fire hazard for nearby houses.
During the operation, several individuals were identified as suspected drug users. Urine tests confirmed at least one person had taken drugs. The suspect admitted to drug use and was taken to Pattaya City Police Station for legal action.
