Mongolian arrested for stealing goods worth 26,000 baht in Pattaya

A Mongolian man was detained by Pattaya City Police after allegedly stealing brand-name items from a mall near Pattaya Beach. The incident was reported by a security guard and a representative from the shopping centre.
The 52 year old Mongolian national, Byamba, was found with 12 brand-name shirts and two bags, totalling 26,000 baht (US$770) in value.
The security guard, who remains unidentified, noticed Byamba lingering in brand-name shops while moving a piece of luggage.
The guard grew suspicious when items he had previously seen on shelves disappeared.

Deciding to follow Byamba, the guard asked to search him but initially found nothing. Remaining wary, the guard requested to inspect the luggage.
Despite finding nothing at first, his persistence paid off when he discovered a cleverly hidden secret compartment, which was not immediately apparent. Inside this compartment were the stolen items.
When the compartment was uncovered, Byamba attempted to flee on foot. However, the guard’s prompt actions prevented his escape, and the suspect was detained until the police arrived. Byamba is now facing legal charges for shoplifting, reported The Pattaya News.
In similar news, a foreign tourist caused a disturbance in Patong early on January 13 after allegedly stealing headphones from a local shop and injuring a bystander who tried to intervene.
The incident occurred around 1.30am at a shop on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, which sells bags, headphones, and other goods. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanan Mekchai of the Patong police, the theft was reported by 42 year old Ngo Van Binh, a Vietnamese store employee.
Ngo stated that the tourist, who was accompanied by a woman, both of unknown nationalities, entered the store to browse. During their visit, the man reportedly took a pair of headphones without paying.
Realizing the theft, Ngo chased after the couple while calling for assistance.
Chanaphon Soponrat, a 31 year old from Phatthalung, heard the calls for help and joined the pursuit. However, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed Chanaphon’s left arm before fleeing the scene.
