Mercedes-Benz red light joyride ends in smash and dash in Pattaya

A flashy Mercedes-Benz was left in tatters and a streetlight snapped in two after a dramatic early-morning smash in Pattaya. The driver did a runner faster immediately after the crash.
The chaos unfolded at precisely 6.23am, today, April 4, near the Sukhumvit intersection, en route to Highway 7 in Na Jomtien, Sattahip, Chon Buri. Witnesses say the high-end Merc jumped a red light before ploughing straight into a lamppost with a deafening crash.
By the time Na Jomtien police arrived, the £100,000 (4.5 million baht) Mercedes-Benz S560e was sitting in the central reservation like a crumpled tin can. The front end was obliterated, debris littered the tarmac, and the unlucky streetlight lay shattered across the road, reported Pattaya News.
But what really raised eyebrows? The driver had vanished.
A nearby street vendor, watched the whole thing unfold.
“I heard this massive bang and saw the car smash into the pole. Then I saw two Chinese men get out, one bolted into the woods, the other crossed the road and disappeared.”
Officers are now on the hunt for the mystery duo, who scarpered before they could be held to account. Police say the men will be summoned for questioning and likely slapped with charges for damaging government property.

Earlier this week a late-night joyride turned into a nightmare when a foreign biker allegedly cut off a teenager’s scooter, resulting in a violent crash in East Pattaya that left both riders seriously injured, and one boy missing a finger.
The accident unfolded on Sunday, March 30 in Soi Khao Noi (Boon Samphan), just outside Chokchai Village 7. Emergency responders arrived to find two motorcycles wrecked in the road, a black Chopper-style motorbike and a pink Honda Scoopy-i, both toppled over and mangled from the impact.
The Chopper was ridden by a foreign man believed to be an Indian national, aged between 50 and 60 years old. He was found in a dazed state with severe head injuries.
