Allegedly drunk foreigner overturns Mercedes-Benz in Chon Buri

An allegedly drunk foreigner sustained minor injuries after his Mercedes-Benz overturned on a road in Chon Buri in the early hours of Saturday.
Rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Dhammasathan Foundation rushed to the scene outside Nong Prue Municipality Kindergarten at approximately 2.30am on Saturday, March 8, to assist the injured foreign man, whose name was not disclosed to the public. Officers from Nong Prue Police Station also arrived to investigate the cause of the accident.
Upon arrival, officers found a black Mercedes-Benz overturned in the right lane of the road, with all the car windows shattered. The foreign driver was extracted from the damaged vehicle with only minor injuries.
The foreign man was reportedly in shock and unable to provide any useful information to the police. He also reportedly appeared to be intoxicated.
Police examined the dash camera of the luxury car and discovered that the foreign man had been driving at high speed when he mounted the traffic island. He managed to veer left to avoid hitting a portrait of the King of Thailand, causing the car to overturn.

The foreign man was escorted to the police station for questioning and an alcohol test. However, the results of the test and details of any legal consequences have not been released by the police.
As there were no other injuries or significant damage, the foreign man may be charged under Sections 43(4) and 157: driving recklessly and dangerously. The penalty is a fine ranging from 400 to 1,000 baht.

In January, another speeding foreign driver caused a fatal accident in Chon Buri when he crashed his SUV into a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a Thai woman and the serious injury of another Thai victim. The driver was later identified as 19 year old English-Thai man Lewis Barrett.

Barrett was captured on CCTV driving at excessive speed and repeatedly sounding his horn at cars ahead to clear the way. Police confirmed that he had no alcohol in his system.
In the same month, a foreign sedan driver collided with a som tam cart in Pattaya while travelling with his Thai girlfriend. The couple had reportedly just left an entertainment venue in the area and were both intoxicated. The Thai woman even claimed to be the driver in an attempt to protect her foreign boyfriend.
