Hit-and-run chaos in Pattaya: Thai man left stranded as white sedan driver escapes justice
A Thai man involved in a hit-and-run accident near a Big C department store in Central Pattaya with the driver of the white sedan responsible is still at large. Thanachot Aranyapragorn shared his story with local media, expressing frustration that the driver has not been apprehended despite filing a report with Pattaya Police nine days ago.
The accident occurred on May 20 at approximately 3.40am at an intersection close to the department store. The 26 year old Thanachot, a freelance worker, was riding his motorbike toward Sukhumvit Road when the traffic light turned green. As he approached the intersection, a white sedan sped down from Sukhumvit Road, turned right, and collided with Thanachot. The impact sent him flying over the car hood and onto the ground, while the sedan drove away, leaving him injured and alone.
Thanachot told Thai media that a nearby CCTV camera captured the incident and the sedan. He has provided the footage to Pattaya Police and is now awaiting updates on the investigation. In addition to wanting the driver to be held accountable for fleeing the scene, Thanachot is seeking compensation for the damage to his motorbike and his medical expenses.
Last month in Bangkok, there was a hit-and-run incident that went viral on TikTok, stirring worry among viewers. A 20 year old intoxicated individual driving a Mercedes-Benz collided with a motorcycle taxi driver on the Rama 9 Road in Bangkok. The event was recorded, depicting the driver attempting to escape, while the injured party held onto the car’s hood.
After an investigation, local authorities stated the young man behind the wheel had been drinking before the crash. Although he managed to flee briefly, a flat tyre led to his arrest. The injured party asked for compensation, settling on 50,000 baht. The Mercedes-Benz driver was charged by law enforcement with driving under the influence and causing harm, with penalties including possible imprisonment, fines, and license suspension.
