Grim discovery: Pattaya vendor finds bloated corpse in jungle

In a chilling twist that sounds straight out of a horror flick, a papaya salad vendor stumbled across a bloated corpse while relieving herself in a remote thicket in Pattaya. What was meant to be a routine break from work quickly turned into a nightmare she’ll never forget.

The grisly discovery was made yesterday, April 3 at 3.06pm. Police Lieutenant Natthabadin Thong-in, Deputy Inspector of Nong Prue Police Station, received a report from alarmed locals that a body had been found in a forested area behind the old fresh market in Soi Thung Klom. He immediately coordinated with the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Team and rushed to the scene.

A crowd of curious villagers had already gathered at the site, which featured a makeshift tarpaulin shelter resembling a tent.

Around 10 metres away, on a raised dirt mound surrounded by dense brush, officers found the body of Buason Simmawan, a 42 year old watchman originally from Ubon Ratchathani.

He was wearing a grey t-shirt and shorts, and his body was already in an advanced state of decomposition, emitting a powerful stench.

Police estimate that Buason had been dead for at least a day. While no external injuries were immediately visible, a full autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death.

The woman who made the gruesome find, 55 year old papaya salad vendor Khwan Chaona, recounted the moment in horror when she wandered into the underbrush to relieve herself when an overwhelming foul odour led her to the decomposing body.

“I nearly lost control of my bladder when I saw it. I then fled the scene and immediately alerted police.”

Locals told police that Buason had not been seen for two days. He was last spotted helping a landowner cut grass near the very location where his body was found. His employer had been searching for him after his sudden disappearance.

Villagers noted that Buason was a known heavy drinker, reportedly consuming white liquor like water. An empty bottle was discovered next to his body, possibly indicating alcohol may have played a role in his death, reported The Pattaya News.

Pol. Lt. Natthabadin has ordered a full forensic investigation. The body has been transferred to the Police Hospital’s Forensic Institute for autopsy. Investigators continue to piece together the final moments of Buason’s life.
