Two workers critically injured in Chanthaburi construction accident
Two construction workers were critically injured after one was electrocuted by a high-voltage wire, causing him to fall from a two-story building. The incident occurred yesterday, July 31 at a construction site near Wat Phlapphla in Chanthaburi province.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene, where they found one worker unconscious and in critical condition, while the other was seriously injured but responsive. The accident took place when one of the workers, attempting to pass a wet piece of wood to his colleague, accidentally touched a high-voltage wire. This led to both men falling from the second floor of the building.
Upon arrival, the rescue team, along with emergency medical personnel from Phra Pok Klao Hospital, immediately began administering first aid. They found one of the workers on the second-floor balcony, where he had been receiving CPR with an AED device. The worker was unresponsive with weak vital signs, prompting the team to urgently move him to a spinal board and transport him to the hospital for further treatment.
The other injured worker was found on the ground, unable to move, and suffering from severe pain after falling from a height of over 6 metres. Rescue volunteers provided initial treatment, including placing him on a stretcher and fitting him with a neck brace to stabilise his condition before transporting him to the hospital.
Rungroj, a 39 year old fellow worker who witnessed the incident, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the accident. He explained that he, along with the injured men, 19 year old Toon, and 40 year old Tum, were working on the roof of the building.
Rungroj was passing a piece of wood to Toon, who was standing on a metal scaffold. Toon was then to pass the wood to Tum, who was installing roof panels.
High-voltage
Rungroj described how the wood, likely wet from rain, accidentally touched a high-voltage wire as Toon was handing it to Tum. Toon, still holding onto the wood, was directly electrocuted, causing him to fall from the scaffold and hit the balcony railing before losing consciousness. Rungroj managed to grab Toon and pull him back, preventing him from falling further, reported KhaoSod.
However, Tum was not as fortunate. Although he did not have a firm grip on the wood, he was still electrocuted and fell from the roof, hitting the ground with significant force. Both men were subsequently rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
