Tragedy on Phuket bridge: Motorcyclist killed in late-night crash

A tragic late-night collision on Phuket’s notorious Kojan Bridge claimed the life of a motorcyclist just before midnight yesterday, December 11. The crash occurred on Rattanakosin 200 Pi Road in Phuket Town, prompting police to rush to the scene at 11.54pm.

Arriving officers found a white Toyota Hilux Vigo, registered locally, stopped in the middle of the road. The driver, 33 year old Thanchanok Suanmuang from Karon, stood nearby as police surveyed the grim scene.

Further down the road lay a heavily damaged Suzuki motorbike, also registered in Phuket. Its driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was discovered gravely injured. Emergency responders rushed the victim to Vachira Phuket Hospital, but despite their best efforts, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries shortly after.

Police have yet to determine the cause of the collision, with investigations underway to piece together the events leading to this fatal crash. The Kojan Bridge, often a hotspot for accidents due to its design and heavy traffic, has now added another tragedy to its record.

This incident adds to Phuket’s alarming road safety statistics. According to the Thai Road Safety Committee (ThaiRSC), the island has recorded 136 road fatalities this year, alongside 24,183 injuries from traffic accidents.

Local officials continue to urge caution on Phuket’s roads, especially during the festive season when traffic volumes and risks escalate. Police are calling on witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to come forward as they work to bring clarity to the case, reported Phuket News.

In other news, a woman riding a motorcycle collided with the edge of a bridge and was then struck by an 18-wheel truck, resulting in her immediate death on the road. The truck driver stated that he was unable to brake in time.
