Thai woman shoots herself in Chachoengsao after dispute with boyfriend

Neighbour fears police misidentify her as gunman and hides firearm before alerting homeowner

Armed police officers prepared to confront a gunman at a house in Chachoengsao province after receiving reports of a shooting yesterday, October 22, only to discover that a woman involved had shot herself following a dispute with her boyfriend.

Officers from Bang Pakong Police Station arrived at a two-storey house in Bang Pakong district after receiving a report of a shooting from the homeowner, 52 year old Thanakorn. They initially believed the gunman was still at the scene, prompting a highly prepared response.

However, Thanakorn explained that his son’s 21 year old girlfriend, referred to as “A” (pseudonym), was alone in the house and shot herself. He further explained that his 38 year old neighbour, On-anong, approached him in a panic and informed him of A’s self-inflicted injury.

Thanakorn found A lying with a gunshot wound to her chest in the second-floor bedroom. He immediately called the police, who then coordinated with a rescue team to transport A to the hospital.

Channel 7 reported that the bullet passed through her chest and exited through her back. Though no further updates on her condition were provided, initial reports suggested that A survived and is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

An empty box of ammunition and a container of 9mm bullets were found on the ground, prompting police to search for the missing gun.

Police then questioned On-anong, who revealed that A had made a video call to her and confessed to shooting herself. On-anong said she saw blood and a gunshot wound, so she rushed to A’s bedroom.

On-anong stated that she feared being mistaken for the gunman, so she placed the firearm in a plastic bag and left it with her family member before informing Thanakorn about the incident.

Police later recovered the weapon and concluded the case to be one of self-harm after questioning all parties involved. It was revealed that A had been struggling with depression and had recently argued with her boyfriend. She was reportedly preparing to move out of the house just before the incident occurred.

Police are currently awaiting the improvement of A’s condition before questioning her in greater detail regarding the incident.
