Teen soldier found dead in Sing Buri canal after visit home

A 19 year old conscript soldier, who had taken leave to visit his mother on Valentine’s Day, was found dead in a canal in Sing Buri province yesterday, February 16.
Police Colonel Decho Kanha of the Bang Rachan Police Station received a report about the discovery of a man’s body in an irrigation canal along the Chan Yut-Bang Rachan road in Pho Chana Kai subdistrict, Bang Rachan district.
The police, with medical professionals and the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue unit, arrived at the scene to find the man, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and camouflage trousers, lying face down in the water.
Nearby, a red Honda motorcycle, a mobile phone, and a black bag were submerged. Preliminary examination showed no signs of assault, and it was estimated that the man had been deceased for about two days. The deceased was identified as a resident of Ngiu Rai subdistrict, in Buri district, Sing Buri.
In an interview, the soldier’s mother revealed that her son, a conscript, had returned home to visit her on February 14. He later mentioned plans to meet friends near Wat Keemarat in Sra Chaeng and left home on his motorcycle, subsequently becoming unreachable.
She expressed concern over his inability to be contacted, given his usual attachment to his phone. Friends reported that he had left for home at 2am on February 15. They assisted in searching for him, eventually leading to the tragic discovery in the canal, reported KhaoSod.
The body was sent for an autopsy at Bang Rachan Hospital and an investigation is underway. The family will be allowed to retrieve the body for religious rites following legal procedures.
