Elderly woman escapes house fire in Samut Sakhon with nine dogs
An 80 year old woman was forced to flee her burning home in Samut Sakhon last night, January 4, while trying to rescue nine dogs she kept inside the property.
The fire broke out around 9.30 pm at a house in Soi Pattana 4, located in the Bang Ya Phraek subdistrict of Mueang district. Firefighters from Bang Ya Phraek Municipality, supported by water trucks from nearby areas, were dispatched to the scene.
The elderly woman, who lived alone, was seen running in and out of the burning house attempting to catch her dogs and lead them to safety. Rescue workers said some of the animals resisted or tried to run back inside, complicating efforts to remove them.
She told authorities that the blaze appeared to have started in a pile of waste and plastic materials she had collected for resale. The fire reportedly spread quickly from that area and engulfed the house. Just before the flames intensified, she noticed a glow near an old refrigerator that had been plugged in near the pile, leading her to suspect an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.
Fire crews battled the flames for over an hour before bringing the situation under control. The house suffered extensive damage, with most of the structure and belongings destroyed, reported CH7 HD News.
No injuries were mentioned in initial reports, and officials have yet to confirm the cause of the fire.
In a separate blaze back in December, a major fire tore through Rong Kluea Market in Aranyaprathet district, destroying multiple shops at one of Thailand’s busiest border trading hubs. Firefighters battled the flames for over an hour before bringing the situation under control.
Authorities confirmed that the fire did not spread to nearby buildings, but approximately 10 to 15 rental units were completely destroyed. Initial findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
