A rescue worker from Nong Hai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) in Amnat Charoen province won first prize in the lottery after assisting a local family with a funeral. Believing his good deed brought him luck, he received 6 million baht.

At the Nong Hai SAO Rescue Unit, colleagues and locals gathered to congratulate 50 year old Yuthasat Mutuchit, an emergency medical technician, for winning the top lottery prize. The winning ticket, numbered 376336, was worth 6 million baht.

Yuthasat recounted how he came by the lottery ticket. He explained that he was helping a local family transport a deceased loved one to the temple using the rescue vehicle, a common service provided by the SAO.

During the funeral, a lottery ticket vendor was selling tickets, and the attendees were buying them until only one ticket remained. Yuthasat explained that he bought the final ticket, without giving it too much thought.

“There was only one ticket left that no one had bought, so I decided to purchase it 20 minutes before the draw for 100 baht. Normally, a pair of tickets costs 120 baht, but since it was a single ticket, the vendor reduced the price to 100 baht. I bought it without thinking much, just because it was the last one left.”

He continued to describe the moment he realised he had won.

“When the numbers were announced, my friends who had also bought tickets checked theirs, but none of them won. When I checked mine and saw that I had won the first prize, I was in shock. I still can’t believe I won.

“I don’t want to boast but I’m still single. With the money, I plan to build a house because my current one is in poor condition. The remaining money will be saved for future needs.”

Despite his newfound wealth, Yuthasat intends to continue his work as a rescue worker at the SAO. He believes that his job, which involves helping others, brought him the good fortune of winning the lottery, reported KhaoSod.
