A well-known betel garden owner was found dead on his plantation after failing to return home, leaving his devastated family grappling with the shocking loss.

The tragic discovery was made yesterday, March 4 at 8pm, when Mueang Phatthalung Police received a report of a body found in a betel plantation in Rom Mueang subdistrict, Phatthalung province.

Police Lieutenant Prasert Duang-iad, accompanied by medical staff from Phatthalung Hospital and local rescue workers, rushed to the scene.

There, they discovered the lifeless body of 61 year old Boonkree, a respected plantation owner, lying motionless on a walkway within the lush betel fields. A preliminary examination revealed no signs of injury or foul play, and authorities estimated that he had been dead for at least three hours before being found.

Boonkree’s wife, 61 year old Tosanee, shared that her husband had left home around midday to tend to their plantation, a routine he followed religiously. He would typically return by 5pm, but when he failed to show up, alarm bells rang.

Worried, Tosanee contacted their daughter and relatives, launching a frantic search mission. Their worst fears were confirmed when they found Boonkree’s body on the plantation, lifeless and unresponsive.

Tosanee revealed that Boonkree had been experiencing frequent chest tightness in recent weeks and had been taking medication for the condition. However, his symptoms had appeared to improve, and there were no visible signs of illness before he left home that fateful day.

His sudden death has left his family in shock, struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss. The family has since proceeded with religious rites to honour Boonkree’s memory, reported KhaoSod.

Rom Mueang subdistrict is a key agricultural hub, renowned for its betel leaf production. Boonkree’s plantation was one of the area’s major contributors, cultivating high-quality betel leaves for local and export markets. His unexpected passing has not only devastated his family but also left a void in the local agricultural community.

Police are continuing their investigation, but initial findings suggest that natural causes may have been responsible for Boonkree’s untimely death.
