A serious accident involving a pickup truck crashing into a van left numerous passengers injured, including a two year old with a severe head injury and a two month old baby who was ejected from the vehicle.

The incident occurred at 4pm yesterday, July 11, on Road 3076 near the Hua Fai intersection in Nong Khok village, Klong Takrao subdistrict, Tha Takiap district, Chachoengsao province. Police officers from Tha Takiap Police Station and rescue teams from the Buddhist Association of Thailand immediately responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found a severely damaged white Toyota passenger van. Inside were 12 injured passengers. Three individuals were trapped, with a woman in the front left seat suffering a head injury and both legs pinned. Rescue teams had to use cutting equipment to free the trapped passengers and rushed them to Tha Takiap Hospital. The two year old toddler and the two month old baby were among the most critically injured.

The black Isuzu pickup truck involved in the collision was also found with severe front-end damage. The male driver was critically injured and had already been transported to the hospital.

The 47 year old driver of the van, Vichien, stated that he was transporting Cambodian workers from Ban Laem in Chanthaburi province, driving through the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. He reported that as he reached the intersection, the black pickup suddenly sped out from Nong Khok Village Road and collided with his vehicle.

Horrific collision

Eyewitnesses corroborated Vichien’s account, stating that the van was travelling straight while the black pickup came speeding from Ban Nong Khok Market Road without braking. The intersection, being a high-shouldered Y-junction, contributed to the severity of the collision. Witnesses described the horrific moment when the two year old child sustained a severe head injury and the two month old baby was thrown from the van.

At Tha Takiap Hospital, medical staff, including doctors and nurses, worked swiftly to assist the injured. One of the Cambodian passengers mentioned that there were 12 people in the van, all strangers to one another, but all had boarded the van from Ban Laem in Chanthaburi province, headed to Bangkok for work. The passenger recounted that as they neared the intersection, the black pickup suddenly appeared at high speed and crashed into their van.

“We were all from Cambodia, heading to Bangkok for work. Suddenly, this black truck came out of nowhere and hit us so hard.”

Police are continuing their investigation into the accident and will proceed with legal actions as necessary, reported KhaoSod.
