Pickup driver falls asleep, cause fatal crashes in Chon Buri

A pickup truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and crash into a motorcycle. This tragic accident resulted in the immediate deaths of two individuals and severe injuries to another.
The incident occurred at 10.40pm yesterday, January 19 on the Phan Thong-Ban Bueng road, near a restaurant in Nong Hong, Phan Thong district, Chon Buri province.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Charuek Phothong, an investigator at Phan Thong Police Station, along with rescue personnel from the Thammaratsamee Maneerat Foundation, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered a severely damaged pickup truck, crashed into a concrete barrier. Behind it was a red and black Yamaha motorcycle, also heavily damaged.
The bodies of 27 year old Phongpisut and 27 year old Pawinee were found at the scene. Nearby, 25 year old Wasanasom was discovered with a broken leg, critically injured and struggling to breathe. Emergency services provided initial aid before transporting her to a hospital.
The pickup truck driver was absent from the scene initially. However, a search revealed him hiding approximately 50 metres away. Identified as 32 year old Prakit, he later confessed to the police that he was returning home from Ban Bueng district when he briefly fell asleep.
Causing his pickup truck to veer into the opposite lane and collide with the motorcycle before ultimately crashing into the roadside barrier. Prakit was subsequently taken for further questioning and legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In other news, a Thai man is demanding 24 million baht in compensation from a BMW driver who was speeding when she crashed into his family’s motorcycle, killing his wife and two children on a road in the southern province of Chumphon in November last year.
The 52 year old Thai mother, Yenjit, and her two children, Boonyanuch and Krittamate, lost their lives in the accident, which occurred at around 7.40pm on November 27. The three were travelling home on a motorcycle when a black BMW collided with them on a bridge.
