Man arrested for wife’s murder 20 years ago as deadline looms

Police from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division apprehended a 58 year old man accused of fatally stabbing his wife nearly 20 years ago. The arrest occurred just days before the statute of limitations on the murder case was set to expire.

The suspect, identified as Prajuab, was found working as a construction labourer in Chon Buri. Yesterday, March 9, Police Major General Songklod Krerkkritya, commander of the division, directed an agency to execute the arrest warrant.

The warrant was first issued by the Sa Kaeo Provincial Court on April 1, 2005, charging Prajuab with premeditated murder. After almost two decades, Prajuab was eventually detained at a workers’ residence in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province, as the deadline for the case’s statute of limitations loomed on March 30.

The incident dates back to 2005 when Prajuab was living in Sa Kaeo province. He allegedly used a knife to fatally stab his wife, identified as La, before fleeing and evading capture by frequently moving between different locations.

KhaoSod reported that Prajuab had stabbed his wife at the time, after she had asked for a divorce as she wished to return to her ex-husband.

After police received information that Prajuab had assumed a new identity and was working in Chon Buri, they orchestrated an operation for his arrest. During questioning, Prajuab confessed to the crime, citing anger and resentment over his wife’s decision to leave him.

Following his confession, Prajuab was transferred to Pang Sida Police Station for further legal proceedings.

In similar news, a Thai man mistook his former sister-in-law for his ex-wife, stabbed her 18 times at the side of a road in the central province of Ayutthaya on March 6.

The suspect, Boonma, explained that he was in a relationship with the victim before being arrested and imprisoned three years ago. Upon his release, he attempted to get back into contact with the victim, but his advances were not reciprocated, prompting his anger.
