Thai woman mistaken for sister stabbed 18 times by sister’s ex

A Thai man mistook his former sister-in-law for his ex-wife yesterday stabbed her 18 times at the side of a road in the central province of Ayutthaya.
Officers from Phak Hai Police Station were alerted to the stabbing at about 6.15am, yesterday, March 6. Upon arrival, they found the 39 year old woman, Waraporn, with severe injuries. She sustained at least 18 stab wounds to her neck and body, with blood pooling on the ground beneath a large tree.
Rescue workers rushed Waraporn to hospital but she later succumbed to her injuries. Her 40 year old sister, Jureeporn, informed police that the murderer was her ex-husband, Boonma.
Police contacted Boonma’s mother, who revealed the route he took to flee the scene. Officers later managed to track him down on a rural road in the Bang Ban district of Ayutthaya province.
Boonma explained that he was in a relationship with Jureeporn before being arrested and imprisoned three years ago. He was released about four months ago and continued to contact Jureeporn in the hope of reuniting with her.

However, Jureeporn rejected his advances, stating that she already had a new boyfriend. Boonma frequently saw pictures of Jureeporn with her new partner on social media, which fuelled his jealousy and desperation.
He then planned to murder his ex-wife, believing that Jureeporn left home for work early every morning. He knew she would wait for her company’s welfare vehicle at the location of the attack, so he lay in wait for her there.

Boonma admitted that he stabbed the victim with scissors but could not recall how many times. He genuinely believed he had killed Jureeporn but later learned from his mother that the victim was, in fact, his former sister-in-law.
Boonma faces the maximum penalty under Section 289(4) of the Criminal Code for premeditated murder, which carries a death sentence.

A similar case of mistaken identity in a murder occurred in 2023 in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. In that incident, a gunman who was a former military officer turned himself in and confessed to fatally shooting a female milk transport truck driver.
However, he shot the wrong target. The murderer claimed he was hired by another milk truck driver to kill the woman’s husband due to a business conflict.
