Malaysian tourists die in motorcycle crash on Thai road
A motorcycle skidded off a curve on a rain-soaked road in Prachuap Khiri Khan province yesterday, resulting in the deaths of two Malaysian tourists. The incident took place between kilometre markers 415 and 416 on the southbound Phetkasem Road in Bang Saphan Noi district.
Police Lieutenant Pawarit Siriwat, the deputy inspector of Bang Saphan Noi Police Station, reported the accident. Emergency services, including rescue workers from Kuson Songkroh Foundation and Bang Saphan Noi Hospital personnel, were dispatched to the scene. They discovered a black Kawasaki motorcycle, with registration number WRG 8535, severely damaged and lying in the roadside grass.
The bodies of the victims, Mohd Sofi Bin Ismail and Zaimima Binti Ismail, were found on the road. Mohd Sofi, wearing jeans and a black leather jacket, was found in the middle of the road, while Zaimima was discovered at the roadside. Both were tourists from Malaysia. Initial investigations revealed that Mohd Sofi was the rider and Zaimima was the passenger on their journey from Mae Hong Son province back to Malaysia.
The accident occurred on a curve amidst rain, which likely made the road slippery. The high speed of the motorcycle might have contributed to the loss of control, causing it to skid and crash into a U-turn sign. This collision resulted in the immediate deaths of both individuals at the scene.
The bodies were transported to Bang Saphan Noi Hospital for autopsies as part of legal procedures. Further investigations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident, reported KhaoSod.
