Chiang Mai’s explosive night: Firework blast leaves home in ruins
A firework explosion devastated a home in Chiang Mai, prompting an urgent investigation by multiple agencies. The incident occurred yesterday at 2.30pm in Pa Phai, San Sai district, Chiang Mai province.
Police swiftly responded to the scene, including local security officials, rescue teams, and the Pa Phai subdistrict municipality. Prasit Wiriya, the village head of Moo 8 in Pa Phai, was also present to assist with the assessment.
Upon arrival, officials discovered a house and a makeshift shelter severely damaged by the explosion. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The house, which had no official address, bore the brunt of the blast, leaving it in a precarious state.
It was a shocking event. The sound of the explosion was heard from a considerable distance as remarked a resident.
“We are just grateful that no one was hurt.”
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and police are working diligently to determine what triggered the incident. Early reports suggest that a stockpile of fireworks stored at the location might have accidentally ignited, leading to the explosion. However, this theory has yet to be confirmed by investigators.
The local community has been left shaken by the event, said another neighbour.
“It’s frightening to think that something like this could happen so close to home. We’ve never experienced anything like this before.”
Rescue teams and municipal workers have been on-site to ensure the safety of the area and assist with the cleanup. The focus now is on understanding how the fireworks ended up in the residential area and whether proper safety protocols were followed.
Our primary concern is the safety of the residents, as said a spokesperson from the rescue team.
“We are working around the clock to secure the area and prevent any further incidents.
“We are thoroughly investigating the situation to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. It is essential to understand how and why this explosion occurred.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials from multiple agencies collaborating to piece together the events leading up to the explosion. They are also examining whether there were any violations of safety regulations, reported Khaosod.
