Fatal electrocution at Chatuchak Market sparks safety concerns
A tragic accident at the Chatuchak Market in Lamphun province resulted in the death of a migrant worker and serious injuries to three others as they were electrocuted during rooftop welding while it rained. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services and police.
The accident occurred yesterday, November 6, around 4pm, when four migrant workers were engaged in welding steel on a 10-metre-high roof at Chatuchak Market in Lamphun’s Mueang district, while it was raining. Unfortunately, they were electrocuted, leading to three of them falling to the ground. The fourth worker remained stranded on the rooftop.
Emergency responders in the Mueang Lamphun area quickly arrived at the scene to assist. The three injured workers were promptly transported to Lamphun’s Prince Hospital. Despite efforts to save them, one of the workers succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, while the other two remain in critical condition, revealed a rescue official.
“We did everything we could to stabilise the injured and get them to the hospital as quickly as possible. It was a difficult situation given the circumstances.”
Meanwhile, the Lamphun Electricity Authority officials acted swiftly by cutting the power supply to the Chatuchak Market zone. They also deployed a crane to rescue the worker who was stuck on the roof. Fortunately, the worker only sustained minor injuries and was safely brought down, reported KhaoSod.
Efforts are underway to determine what led to this tragic accident. Investigators from Lamphun’s Mueang district Police Station have been assigned to examine the scene and gather information to uncover the truth behind the incident.
