Drunk Chinese tourist throws cash, chaos erupts in Thai restaurant
Netizens demand tougher laws as viral clip fuels debate on foreigner behaviour in Thailand

A wild scene unfolded in a Thai restaurant after a drunk Chinese tourist stripped off his shirt and began throwing money at shocked diners, sparking outrage online and a swift police response.
The incident in Prachin Buri, central Thailand, which went viral today, April 30, was first reported by the popular Facebook page Jay Moi v+. The chaotic episode reportedly took place on the second floor of a restaurant, where the man, clearly intoxicated, began dancing shirtless, coughing phlegm, and showering banknotes onto Thai patrons below.
The bizarre behaviour left customers confused and alarmed, disrupting an otherwise calm evening for those enjoying live music and dinner on the ground floor.
Footage from the scene shows the Chinese tourist tossing money over the balcony, provoking visible discomfort among the guests.
Police officers were soon called to the venue. The video shows them checking the man’s passport and warning him about his conduct.
While the tourist reportedly refused to engage with police or respond to initial warnings, officers managed to de-escalate the situation without further incident.
Jay Moi v+ did not hold back in criticising the man’s actions, calling them a blatant sign of disrespect.
“Chinese people throw money on the heads of Thai people who are sitting and eating downstairs. Some take off their shirts, and some cough up phlegm all over the place. They don’t know the right time and place,” the post read. “They have no manners in society. Thai people have dignity.”
The page continued with a broader commentary, questioning the lack of accountability for misbehaving foreigners in Thailand.
“As someone who travels frequently, I have rarely seen foreigners being aggressive in other people’s countries. The reason is that their laws are strict. Have you ever noticed how many fights foreigners cause in Thailand? How much of a mess our country is because of certain groups of people?”
The post struck a nerve online, with thousands of netizens expressing anger over the man’s behaviour. Many called for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such incidents, while others lamented what they see as declining respect for Thai social norms from some foreign visitors, reported Daily News.
As the clip continues to circulate, it has reignited debate over tourist conduct and Thailand’s approach to handling bad behaviour from abroad.
