Dogs cause motorcycle crash, owner denies responsibility
Two dogs chasing each other caused a motorcycle accident, leading to injuries and damage to a pickup truck. The owner of the dogs denies responsibility, despite CCTV footage showing the dogs leaving and returning to the house.
On September 16, 38 year old Kritsanapon Sukcharoen, who works at a law office in Nang Rong district, Buriram province, and 43 year old Chatchai Muenjutta, the owner of an orange Chevrolet pickup truck, filed a report with Police Lieutenant Colonel Rueangsak Saengkham, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) at Nang Rong Police Station, Buriram province.
The incident occurred when two dogs ran out of a house in the Kok Khee Lek community, Nang Rong municipality, and collided with Kritsanapon’s motorcycle, causing him to lose control and fall, resulting in injuries. The motorcycle then crashed into Chatchai’s pickup truck, damaging the front bumper.
Both Kritsanapon, the motorcycle rider, and Chatchai, the pickup truck driver, approached the house owner from which the dogs ran out. The house owner, who is the younger brother of the deputy mayor of Nang Rong municipality, denied that the dogs were his. He claimed they belonged to someone else and were attracted to his female dog.
The house owner stated that if responsibility was to be assigned, it should also include the owner of the other dog. This response angered the vehicle owners, prompting them to report the incident to Nang Rong Police Station to have the police investigate and take legal action against the dog owner.
Kritsanapon recounted that he was riding his motorcycle to run an errand when two dogs suddenly ran out from the house and collided with his motorcycle, causing him to fall and get injured. After the accident, the dogs ran back into the house. When he confronted the house owner, who is the deputy mayor’s younger brother, the owner denied the dogs were his, despite CCTV footage clearly showing the dogs leaving and returning to the house.
Motorcycle crash
Kritsanapon insists the dog owner should have some sense of responsibility.
“At the very least, an apology would suffice. Since the owner denied responsibility, I had to bring the CCTV evidence to file a report. Besides being injured, I also have to bear the repair costs for the vehicles, even though the accident was caused by the owner’s negligence in controlling his dogs.”
Chatchai, the pickup truck owner, explained that he was on his way to Buriram when the motorcycle, which the dogs had hit, lost control and crashed into his truck, breaking the bumper. After the incident, he saw the two dogs return to the house.
When the injured motorcyclist questioned the house owner, he denied ownership despite the clear CCTV footage. Chatchai expressed frustration, stating he did not know whom to claim damages from, prompting him to report the incident to the police.
“I was on my way to Buriram when the motorcycle hit by the dogs lost control and crashed into my truck, damaging the bumper. After the incident, I saw the dogs run back into the house, but the owner denied they were his, even though the CCTV footage clearly shows it. According to the law, I don’t know whom to claim damages from, so I reported it to the police.”
The news team later approached the younger brother of the deputy mayor of Nang Rong municipality, who the injured motorcyclist and pickup truck driver claimed was the house owner and dog owner. He stated that he had just returned home after dropping his child at school and was unaware of the dogs running out of the house, reported KhaoSod.
He insisted it was unfair to accuse his dogs solely, as a male dog from another house was also involved due to mating reasons. He stressed the need for evidence showing which dog caused the accident. While the news team was at the house, they observed two dogs in front of the home but could not confirm if they were the ones captured in the CCTV footage causing the accident.
