Buriram stray cat survives dart attack, raises 10,000 baht for care
A stray cat was found severely injured with a dart embedded in its head in Buriram province. Concerned residents notified rescue services to assist the animal and the public has since raised funds for its medical treatment.
Rescue personnel from the Buriram Highway Police were alerted by villagers in Kradueang village, Thanon Hak subdistrict, Nang Rong district, about a stray cat injured by a dart. The dart remained lodged in the cat’s head, causing severe injuries.
Upon arrival, the rescue team discovered the brown and black male stray cat struggling to breathe in a villager’s barn. The dart, over 10 centimetres long, was embedded near the cat’s right eye and nose. The origin and time of the attack remain unknown.
Rescue workers transported the injured cat to the 24 Animal Clinic for urgent treatment. The veterinarian conducted an initial examination and determined that surgery was necessary to remove the dart. The cat’s chances of survival were estimated at 50%, with medical expenses around 10,000 baht. Following a social media post to raise funds, donations quickly totalled 10,480 baht to cover the treatment costs.
Somphong Tongkratok, a 43 year old resident of Kradueang village, recounted how his nephew discovered the injured, ownerless cat.
As a cat lover himself, Somphong was shocked by the animal’s condition and speculated that someone who dislikes cats, or was angered by the cat entering their home, might be responsible for the attack.

Despite the 2014 Cruelty Prevention and Welfare of Animal Act, enforcement is inconsistent, and penalties for offenders are often lenient. Efforts by organisations like Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) and Soi Dog Foundation are making strides in rescuing and rehabilitating animals.
