Thai man attacked and seriously injured after allegedly trying to save stray kitten
A Thai man suffered serious injuries after he was assaulted by a garage owner in Samut Prakan, allegedly because he moved a stray kitten out of traffic.
The incident took place at about 9pm on January 28 at a garage in Soi King Kaew 21, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. The incident came to public interest yesterday, March 15, after the victim and his family later sought help from the Saimai Survive foundation, alleging police failed to deliver justice after the attack.
The victim, identified as 54 year old Jamras, told the organisation he had gone to a grocery shop near the garage on the day of the incident and noticed a stray kitten. He said the road and garage area were frequently busy with vehicles, so he moved the kitten to a nearby abandoned house to prevent it from being hit by a car.
After finishing his shopping and preparing to go home, Jamras said he encountered the garage owner, 30 year old Preecha.
Preecha asked about the kitten, and Jamras explained he had moved it to the abandoned house because he feared it would be killed in a traffic accident. Preecha accused him of stealing the cat and told him to bring the kitten back to the garage, and Jamras said he agreed.

However, Jamras said he did not return the kitten immediately because he felt tired. He said he sat to rest outside the garage and planned to retrieve the kitten shortly afterwards.
While resting, Jamras said he spoke with Preecha’s girlfriend, who told him the kitten was a stray and had not been adopted by anyone. Jamras said he was confused but remained willing to bring the kitten back.
Jamras alleged that as he was about to go to the abandoned house, Preecha approached him carrying a wooden stick and struck him four times on the back of the neck and once on the forehead.
He said he sustained severe injuries, including a brain haemorrhage, a fractured jaw, two broken teeth and impaired vision linked to nerve damage. Jamras said he spent 36 days in hospital for treatment, and that the brain haemorrhage left him with delayed cerebral ischaemia.

During the interview with Saimai Survive, Jamras was reported to have struggled to speak due to his symptoms, with his son assisting to communicate details of the case.
Jamras said he reported the incident to police and submitted a medical certificate describing his condition as evidence. He and his family claimed the case made no progress.
Saimai Survive said it would follow up with police on behalf of Jamras and his family, and said it planned to urge officers to consider treating the case as attempted murder due to the seriousness of the injuries.
As of the latest update, police had not issued a public statement about the incident, and the garage owner had not publicly provided his account.
