Police yesterday launched an investigation after the body of a 31 year old Thai crewman was discovered floating near Ao Por, Pa Khlok.

The man, identified as Thanyawit Thahanthai, was last seen the night before, staying overnight on the tour boat where he worked—but by morning, he had vanished.

Locals spotted the body offshore around midday, yesterday, January 29, and quickly alerted the police. Police, alongside forensic experts from Vachira Phuket Hospital, arrived at the scene to recover the deceased.

According to initial reports, Thanyawit had been on board with the boat captain and a mechanic the previous night. The crew shared dinner before retiring separately. The next morning, as the captain prepared to clean the boat, he noticed Thanyawit was missing. Before he could raise the alarm, police received a report that a body had been found nearby.

Police confirmed that Thanyawit’s body was found face down, unclothed, and showed no visible signs of injury or struggle. His relatives from Trang province have been informed and are travelling to Phuket.

A preliminary forensic examination found no signs of foul play but the Thai police are not ruling anything out. The body has been sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, reported The Phuket News.
